Dentists Petra Radić and Selma Kušmić, together with nurse Mirsada Žužić, took part in implementing the Federal Ministry of Health programme ‘Oral Health Protection Measures in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina: Have your teeth checked – protect your smile’.
As part of this programme, more than 300 dental examinations of school-age children were successfully carried out to improve oral health, detect diseases of the teeth and mouth early, and raise awareness of the importance of preventive dental care.
Examinations were carried out at the following primary schools in the Municipality of Jajce:
- OŠ ‘Berta Kučera’ Jajce;
- OŠ ‘13. rujan’ Jajce;
- OŠ ‘Jajce’ Kruščica;
- OŠ ‘Braća Jezerčić’ Divičani.
In addition to examinations at schools, children also received dental examinations at Jajce Health Centre.
The programme placed particular emphasis on prevention. Recognising changes early, attending regular dental check-ups, maintaining proper oral hygiene and adopting healthy habits from an early age form the basis of protecting the health of the teeth and mouth. The programme aims not only to identify and record existing problems but also to teach children the importance of looking after their own oral health, so that prevention becomes part of their daily routine.
