Education and prevention
Heatwaves and protecting children
Preventive measures during hot weather.
Children are more vulnerable to dehydration and overheating in hot weather. Avoid direct sunlight during the hottest part of the day and offer fluids more often than usual.
Clothing should be light, breathable and light-coloured. Never leave young children or infants in a parked car, even briefly.
If your child becomes very sleepy, dizzy, has a severe headache, is vomiting or shows signs of exhaustion, seek medical help.
Note: this information does not replace an examination by a paediatrician when a child has significant symptoms or their general condition is deteriorating.
